Are You A Good Person?

Are you saved? Do you consider yourself to be a good person?

Almost everyone thinks they’re a good person because of the way we like to compare ourselves to others (Prov. 20:6).

But the question you should be asking is, “Am I good enough to go to Heaven?”

How would you know? tvwatching

The way to find out is to ask yourself if you have obeyed the Ten Commandments. God uses the Law (or the Ten Commandments) to determine who is “good” and who is not good.

Most people say, “Well, I’ve broken one or two, but nothing serious like murder or anything like that.”

Take just ten minutes and go through the “good person test” and see how you do…

The 9th commandment: Thou shalt not bear false witness (Exodus 20:16). Or, you do not lie.

Have you ever told a lie?

If you’ve told a lie ever before, what would that make you? (I’ll give you a hint, if someone committed murder, they would be a murderer, right?) If you’ve lied, you would be a…

Are you brave and honest enough to say it?

This isn’t a trick question and just for the record, I’m a liar too.

The 8th commandment: Thou shalt not steal (Exodus 20:15). Or, you shall not steal.

Have you ever stolen anything (even if it was something small)? The value of the thing stolen doesn’t matter; petty theft is still theft. Have you ever taken anything that belonged to someone else (from the office, school, parents, music/programs on the computer, etc.)?

So, if you’ve ever stolen something, what would that make you?

Now you’re getting the idea.

That’s right, like me, you would be a thief.

The 3rd commandment: Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain (Exodus 20:7).  Or, you shall not take the name of God in vain

Have you ever used God’s name as a curse word? If you have, you’ve taken the Holy name of God – who gave you your life, your family, and everything precious to you – and used it as a filthy, four-letter word. Hitler’s name wasn’t even despised to be used as a curse word!

If you have used God’s Holy name in that manner, the Bible calls this blasphemy.

The 7th commandment: Thou shalt not commit adultery (Exodus 20:14). Or, you shall not commit adultery.

Jesus warned, “But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” (Matthew 5:28).

Have you ever looked at another person with lust? If you have, Jesus calls this adultery

The 5th commandment: Honour thy father and thy mother (Exodus 20:12). Or, honour your mother and father.

Have you always honoured your parents in a way that’s pleasing in the sight of God? Ask Him to remind you of the sins of your youth. You may have forgotten them, but God hasn’t.

The sixth commandment: Thou shalt not kill (Exodus 20:13).  Or, you shall not murder.
